"Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart." ~ Henry Clay
Gratitude means thankfulness, counting your blessings, noticing simple pleasures, and acknowledging everything that you receive. It means learning to live your life as if everything were a miracle, and being aware on a continuous basis of how much you’ve been given. Gratitude shifts your focus from what your life lacks to the abundance that is already present. Surprising life improvements can stem from the practice of gratitude. Giving thanks makes people happier and more resilient, it strengthens relationships, it improves health, and it reduces stress.
Personally, one of the ways I show Gratitude is by giving. This gift comes in many forms – sometimes emotionally (intangible) or in a material (tangible) gift. With that thought in mind, when is the last time you gave selflessly to a friend or even a stranger - just randomly gave? Think about it? Do you remember a time in your life journey when you needed assistance and received it in a beautiful selfless way? Any random act of kindness can cause a positive ripple effect restoring our faith in the love and compassion of the human spirit.
In my Tarot Readings, the Wheel of Fortune sometimes shows up in a session. This card represents the cycle of life – continually cycling up towards the sky and down towards earth. Depending on the position of the card, this gives me an idea of where my client might be at the moment. When the position shows me that things are 'upside down', we are inclined to withdraw from life and want to give up. This is a perfect time to practice Gratitude. The thought to hold in our hearts is that it will only last for so long and then change. Everything in our life is temporary. If we hold on too tightly we will stop the flow of the energy. Let life flow, breathe and vibrate.
Maybe a few too many times on this life’s journey I have been at a point where I was throwing my hands up in the air and asking for a miracle. Believe it or not, this happens to me too! Anyways…just when I was ready to cave in, one of my Earth Angels would appear! Without any hesitation or strings attached, they opened up their hearts and their wallets to help me. These Acts of Kindness have humbled me to the natural flow of the universe and the belief in my circle of love.
By giving back even when we are down, we are attracting a positive energy flow back to us and out into the universe. We are reminding ourselves that we are safe and taken care of. We are all here together in community and are blessed to have the river of abundance flowing in our world. We all eventually get to our destination, but wouldn’t it be so much more beautiful, if along the way, we could lend a hand and a heart to those that appear next to us.
“The spirit in which a thing is given determines that in which the debt is acknowledged; it's the intention, not the face-value of the gift, that's weighed.” - Seneca in Letters to Lucilius
